Courses

First Aid and other educational courses.

Certified by the Canadian Red Cross, all courses are held at Northside's Craig Park Firehall (unless otherwise specified) by a certified Red Cross Instructor. When applicable, bring a lunch/snacks and a resuscitation (pocket mask). Coffee, tea, and water are provided.

If you would like a course to be held (CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS), Standard First Aid, Emergency Medical Assistant - First Responder), please email Instructor to set up the course. A minimum of four attendees is required for each course.

Emergency Medical Assistant - First Responder (Worksafe Level 2 equivalent).

April 11, 12 , 18, 19, 2026 (two weekends), 8am to 6pm each day at Craig Park Fire Hall (8540 Plummer Creek Road north of Powell River). Maximum 12 attendees. Cost is $600. Certificate is valid for three years. Learn to manage airways, respiratory/circulatory emergencies, shock, hemorrhage and soft tissue trauma, musculoskeletal injuries, chest/abdominal/pelvic injuries, head/spinal injuries, poisoning, crisis intervention, administering medications, and other skills. Learn to respond to an emergency, deal with a choking emergency, signs of angina & heart attacks, stroke management, CPR & AED skills, deadly bleeding control, and opiod overdose management using Naloxone. Emergency Medical Assistant - First Responder (Worksafe Level 2 equivalent)

Sep 28, 29, Oct 5, 6, 2024, 8am - 6pm each day (40 hours total). Maximum 12 attendees. Cost is $400.00 for NFDA members, $500.00 for non-members. Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual Basic Life Support (BLS) recertification.
Comprehensive first aid and CPR skills for professional first responders or those training to become first responders. Course teaches the patient assessment model, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemorrhage control, and care for a variety of acute and chronic conditions. Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations. This course is designed for professionals in a fire service, rescue team, workplace response team, sports-medicine professionals, lifeguards and ski patrol. 100% attendance is required.

Northside Junior Firefighter Program

Tuesdays starting September 12 - October 17, 2023 (6 weeks) at Craig Park Firehall, 8540 Plummer Creek Road. Everyone between 12 years and 18 years is welcome. There is no application process; just a parent or guardian's approval. Learn what it's like to be a real firefighter. This hands-on program will let you work with firefighter equipment, learn about fire behaviour, and experience the pride and excitement that comes with serving your community as a volunteer. Standard First Aid Certification

Saturday, Feb 25, 2023, 9am - 5pm. Maximum 10 attendees. Cost is $99 for NFDA Members or $129 for non-NFDA Members.

This is a comprehensive course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. This is a "blended" course in that you complete the knowledge portion online (on your own time) prior to the skills portion in-class. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

CPR/AED Certification
July 24, 2022, 9am - 2pm (tentative time). Maximum 10 attendees. Cost is $50 for NFDA Members, $75 for non-NFDA members.

Learn the skills needed to recognize and respond to a cardiovascular emergency and choking for adults, children, and babies. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial worker safety and insurance boards, and includes the latest CPR guidelines and training in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Basic Life Support (BLS) with Naloxone & Prevention of Disease Transmission
Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, 9am - 3pm. Maximum 8 attendees. Cost is $65 for NFDA members and $80 for non-members.
