First Aid and other educational courses.

Certified by the Canadian Red Cross, all courses are held at Northside's Craig Park Firehall by a certified Red Cross Instructor. When applicable, bring a lunch/snacks and a resuscitation (pocket mask). Coffee, tea, and water are provided.
If you would like a course to be held (CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS), Standard First Aid, Marine First Aid, Babysitting, Stay Safe!, Emergency Medical Responder), please email Instructor to set up the course. A minimum of four attendees is required for each course.

- Northside Junior Firefighter Program
Tuesdays starting September 12 - October 13, 2023 (6 weeks) at Craig Park Firehall, 8540 Plummer Creek Road. Everyone between 12 years and 18 years is welcome. There is no application process; just a parent or guardians approval. Learn what it's like to be a real firefighter. This hands-on program will let you work with firefighter equipment, learn about fire behaviour, and experience the pride and excitement that comes with serving your community as a volunteer. - Babysitting Certification
TBA, 9am - 5pm. Minimum age 11 years (or completion of grade 5). Gather together a minimum of 4 students and we'll schedule a class for you. Basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth 11-15 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families.
- Standard First Aid Certification
Saturday, Feb 25, 2023, 9am - 5pm. Maximum 10 attendees. Cost is $99 for NFDA Members or $129 for non-NFDA Members.
This is a comprehensive course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. This is a "blended" course in that you complete the knowledge portion online (on your own time) prior to the skills portion in-class. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

- Emergency Medical Assistant - First Responder (WCB Level II equivalent)
Sept. 17, 18, 24, 15, 2022, 8am - 6pm each day (40 hours total). Maximum 12 attendees. Cost is $400.00 for NFDA members, $500.00 for non-members. Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual Basic Life Support (BLS) recertification.
Comprehensive first aid and CPR skills for professional first responders or those training to become first responders. Course teaches the patient assessment model, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemorrhage control, and care for a variety of acute and chronic conditions. Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations. This course is designed for professionals in a fire service, rescue team, workplace response team, sports-medicine professionals, lifeguards and ski patrol. 100% attendance is required.
- CPR/AED Certification
July 24, 2022, 9am - 2pm (tentative time). Maximum 10 attendees. Cost is $50 for NFDA Members, $75 for non-NFDA members.
Learn the skills needed to recognize and respond to a cardiovascular emergency and choking for adults, children, and babies. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial worker safety and insurance boards, and includes the latest CPR guidelines and training in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

June 11 & 12, 2022, 8am - 6pm. Maximum 8 attendees. Cost is $200 for NFDA Members and $250 for non-members.
Basic Life Support (BLS) with Naloxone & Prevention of Disease Transmission
Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, 9am - 3pm. Maximum 8 attendees. Cost is $65 for NFDA members and $80 for non-members.
CPR-C with AED & Naloxone & Prevention of Disease Transmission
